Hospital day 1 - So it begins

The adventure has begun. Today from 11 a.m. had talks with anaesthesia, clinical geneticist, blood sampling, consultation with paediatrician, preparation with teaching assistant, dinner, talk with surgeon, play and sleep for a while. That was pretty much our day. Lots of talking and preparing. Made a lot of impression that so much is going to happen. Arterial infusion, long line, spinal puncture for pain relief, peg tube to take air out of the stomach due to fundoplication, possible umbilical hernia to be included immediately. Gideon was also very impressed with everything, but he did very well.

Tomorrow they will start surgery at 9am and the OR is scheduled until 4pm. But the surgeon hopes and expects it to be shorter. They are taking into account a number of scenarios and have prepared well. It's mainly watching what they encounter and at that point seeing what the best solution is because they really have no idea what exactly they are going to encounter. They only know that the current patch has to come out because of the inflammation, that a solution has to be found for the connection between oesophagus and stomach, and that they have to proceed carefully because of the adhesions of the organs and possible spread of the inflammation.

We will see. It will be a long sit for a while, waiting for them to finish. But we will go for it. We will also do as much progress as possible via the blog, but we have no idea how it will all turn out.

So far only briefly. Tired. Sleeping now...
