No hospital for next 3 years!!!

High time for an update to let you know how we are doing!
Last period was a rollercoaster of emotions and changes. Happy with the new life to come and all the changes that go with it. Then disappointment and sadness that it was over so quickly and trying to pick up the pieces again. It's bizarre how many things change in terms of future plans and perspective and that it takes so much time to find a place when things change again. But fortunately, we are now in calmer waters and these things have been able to find a bit of a place.

Holidays
We had a particularly nice and relaxing holiday despite these changes. A month after the curettage, we went away for a week and a half to Limburg, in a cottage on a small holiday park. Actually, this was the best holiday of the past six or seven years. And that had everything to do with the fact that Gideon was doing so well. For the first time, a holiday without worries. Without having to consider energy and health, being able to do spontaneous things without repercussion. We spoilt Gideon immensely with fun outings. And in the evening he often went outside to play with peers. We enjoyed ourselves incredibly!

N&M
Marieke had temporarily stopped studying due to the surgery and Gideon's recovery after which it was actually hard to pick up. That is why she started the 1st year again this year. It was a pity to leave the class she was in, but she has now found her feet again.
And I am doing some processing and settling down. Now that things have been going so well with Gideon since the last operation, strangely enough some things came up that made me realise that I obviously still have a few things to process from the past few years. I don't feel like I'm on the verge of burnout or anything like that, but I am looking for a basis and space to deal with some emotions. And for that, I need peace and quiet in my head. That is why I have put a number of other things and responsibilities I had besides work and family on the back burner. And it does me great good to not have to do anything else for a while and to be able to give space to this process.

Gideon
How well things are going with Gideon! Now just over six months after the last (4th) operation. He is doing well at school and keeps up well in terms of energy and concentration. This was a big worry for us at the end of last year when things were just or actually just not going well with half-day school. At that time, Gideon had started in an intake group, and his teachers also had some concerns about his development. But after the last operation, so many things have changed that Gideon is now keeping up well with the rest of the children. Both in playing together and in the classroom, we don't really experience any hindrance now. He is now in a class 1-2 combination after the summer, and the teachers of this new class could not believe that this was the boy they had heard about. A little boy who joins in nicely, is very social and always has a smile on his face. How nice it was to hear that back, this is the Gideon we see at home too!
We went to the hospital for a check-up a few weeks ago. A regular check-up with "our" surgeon and pulmonologist. And they were now so pleased with how Gideon looks and how he is doing, that the next check-up is only in 3 years. We are immensely grateful to God and the doctors that Gideon is so healthy, WAOW, what a mighty miracle!

Life is quite spicy at times, mostly incredibly beautiful. God is good!
